So, why do Covenant Apostolics not believe the lie of the "Tithe"?
Introduction Covenant Apostolics believe in giving! We give to support the work, to help those in need, and to support our ministry. However, the fact remains that the 10% tithe is not in the New Covenant. The law of tithing actually hinders New Covenant giving because the believer is to be sensitive to the Spirit in the area of giving. Many NT examples show the early church giving abundantly with no tithing law in place. The NT standard is clear "sow sparingly - reap sparingly" - "sow bountifully - reap bountifully". 1. Tithing is declared a "matter of the law" by Jesus Himself. (Mat 23:23) 2. No scripture can be produced which shows any Apostle teaching believers to tithe under the New Covenant. 3. New Covenant believers who are being instructed by their leaders to tithe are being coerced back under the law of the Old Covenant. 4. People are being taught to "tithe" (which is foreign to the New Testament) so that there will be enough money to maintain all manner of "church programs" (which are also foreign to the New Testament) 5. Jesus' ministry was not supported by the tithe because he was not of the tribe of Levi and therefore it was not legal for him to recieve tithes.
